Receiving a tiny miracle today called Spanish healthcare

Tiny Adventure in Spain:  Today's tiny adventure in Spain was receiving a tiny miracle called Spanish healthcare!

I had called Spain home for a mere month and a half.  Today, nothing short of a small miracle (delivered by the kindest Spanish Angel named Caty) shined itself down on me.

You see, I had a genuine love-hate relationship with health insurance back home in the U.S.A.  As a self-employed American artist, it was a struggle to maintain and pay for this necessity on an unpredictable creative salary.  The need for health insurance was the primary reason leading to the demise of my spirit.  I became forced to ignore my artistic work which filled my heart and soul to find full-time employment for health coverage.

Because of the unaffordable health-care back home, I found myself herding my way through a corporate day job to maintain coverage to see a doctor or to protect myself from a potential health scare.  When I first spoke with a friend about traveling abroad, this was one of the first topics that pushed me straight into the direction of leaving the U.S.A.  My friend was telling me about the stellar health care provided in many parts of the world at a fraction of the cost we paid in the U.S.A.  As a dual citizen of Ireland, I had the privilege of calling anywhere in Europe home (with my second passport) and one of the main reasons I ultimately decided on moving to Spain.

I am happy to say that I have never been more satisfied with my health care. On this particular day, one of my sweet students (and now dear friend) Caty held my hand through the seamless paperwork necessary to enter into the healthcare system here in Spain.  Not only did I receive my medical card on the very same day, but I immediately saw a doctor for that nagging cough that had been lurking in my lungs since arriving into the country.

I paid a small percentage of my paycheck each month to receive an incredible privilege from the Spanish government called Health Care while teaching English as a second language abroad.  I would later find out (According to this source) that the quality of the healthcare system in Spain ranks at number 6 compared to the U.S.A. ranking in at number 23.

Well, thank you very much, Spain for all your kind hospitality.  I think I will continue to call you home for a very long while.  With this fabulous news before me, I proceeded to jump into the car with my friend Caty and celebrate the remainder of the day in the great city of Barcelona!
